With WinTV Theater you can watch your favorite TV shows and movies on your PC in high quality Dolby Pro-Logic Surround Sound. WinTV Theater has five speaker outputs, but if you don't have five speakers (yet!) the built-in Virtual Dolby system creates the surround effect using just two or three speakers. Virtual Dolby simulates the Surround Sound effect by bouncing the sound waves and producing the same experience to the human ear. Where is it possible to find Surround Sound? An Increasing number of today's popular television shows and sporting events are broadcast in Surround Sound. In addition, most current movie video tapes and laser disks are marked Dolby Surround to indicate that they were recorded in Surround Sound, and a large number of older video tapes were recorded in Surround Sound, although the packaging may not indicate this fact. How does Dolby Surround work? The Dolby Surround technology allows a user to experience the feeling of being in the center of the action, being completely surrounded by the sound track. The user will hear the center front portion of a restaurant scene but hear voices from the rear from the other diners present. In a battle scene, you will hear the front action with jets or fighters flying and shooting from behind. This feature is produced by installing rear speakers behind the audience to reproduce all sound effects from the rear. Moreover a front speaker is installed right in front of the audience, which reproduces the dialogues of actors e. g. words being spoken by one person to another. For two speaker configurations, users can still experience Dolby Surround Sound with the WinTV Theater product. This feature is called Virtual Dolby which simulates the surround sound effect utilizing a process which bounces the sound. By bouncing the sound through two speakers, the user hears a surround sound effect without using a rear speakers configuration.
