The AIT (Advanced Intelligent Tape) format is Sony's latest innovation in fast-access, high-density tape recording technology. The extra large recording capacity (25GB uncompressed), fast data transfer speed (6MB per second), high speed file access (less than 27 seconds) and unsurpassed media and head life make AIT a true leader in tape technology. Only Sony's AIT format features Memory-In-Cassette (MIC), a memory chip built into the data cartridge. The MIC chip speeds data access by enabling users to load and unload the tape at any of its 256 on-tape partitions and locate files in seconds. This 230 meter long, 8mm wide tape is designed for use in AIT1 drives with the appropriate firmware upgrade.
